            2. JOHN 2 (John'), b. in Fing. 1620, accompanied his parents to

       in notices relating to this f am. that John " resided while in Fling. at
       Otis Hill; but I find no evidence to confirm this, nor is there any
       reason for believing that a dwelling was ever located there. He
       undoubtedly resided on North St., in the house purchased by his fa.,
       Until 1661, when he removed to Scit., and thence, in 1678, to Baru-
       stable, Mass., returning, however, soon after, to Scit., where he d. 16
       Jan. 1682-83, Pet. 63d yr. The

        NATHAN, fin. as " Colonel," from Sturbridge, Mass., and b. 1753, was
       a s. of Rev. Nathan, the first settled minister of that town. Ile was
       grad. at Har. Coll. 1773, in the class with William Caldwell and Mar-
       tin Leavitt, both of whom were identified with Hing. He soon after
       settled in Hing. Here, for ab. two yes, lie taught a grammar school,
       and from 1783 to 1798 ine., was in the mercantile business, trading,
       fitting out vessels, etc., a part of the time as one of the firm of Leavitt
       and Rice. From 1801 to 1805 inc., lie repiesented the town of Iling.
       at the General Court. lie win; :in accomplished speaker as well as an

       accomplished military officer, and while a resident of the town fill d
       many offices of trust and responsibility. He took all active part ill
